USNS Mercy Blackhawk Hangars

Rubb Buildings and Protec, Inc. completed a shipboard project for the USNS Mercy, a 900′ Military Sealift Command hospital ship. The two companies manufactured and erected a 40’w x 48′ BVE range structure with 16.4′ sidewalls that will hangar two (2) Blackhawk helicopters.

These aircraft will support various humanitarian missions in the Pacific and Far East. Rubb’s design included an I-beam foundation, cargo and personnel doors, and provisions for lifting by crane.

The Mercy and its sister ship the USNS Comfort have been in service since 1986.  Most recently these ships were deployed to Los Angeles harbor and New York harbor respectively to support local helath-care efforts in dealing with the COVID-19.
