In 2002, Rubb Building Systems was contracted to build the largest relocatable hangar they had manufactured to date, measuring 270ft wide by 210ft long, with sidewalls that consist of concrete tilt up panels 30ft high.
The hangar is able to accommodate two Boeing 717s side by side and allows for full maintenance to be carried out on and around the aircraft. The interior peak height reaches over 65ft and the main hangar door, a Norco System, is 250ft wide by 50ft high.
The maintenance and storage hangar frame is made of hot dip galvanized steel covered with 28oz/yd2 PVC coated fabric with DuPont Tedlar top finish for additional protection against dirt. Rubb had total responsibility for the design, fabrication, delivery and erection of the hangar including the door system.
In 2020 Rubb was contracted by the building’s new owners, Southwest Airlines, to re-cover the structure with Thermohall® insulation system.
