ASTM A123 – American galvanizing specification standard for the hot-dip galvanized zinc coating on fabricated steel materials.
Axial Steel – Tubular steel bolted between trusses that carries tension and compression loads to the bracing cables.
Ballast Bars/Trays – Accessory items that bolt to the I-Beam Foundation (see definition), allowing the use of concrete weights to resist uplift forces. This can eliminate the need to penetrate the ground with anchors and adds flexibility to the crane-liftable option.
Blast and Coat Buildings – Buildings for the cleaning and painting of industrial parts.
Break-Bulk Storage – The storage of packaged cargo that is marked for individual consignees and has to be loaded and unloaded piece by piece.
Bulk Storage – The storage of a large quantity of loose material, such as sand, salt, grain or dry chemicals.
BVE – The BVE building truss design originated in the UK and sports a vertical sidewall like the NV.
BVR – The BVR structure type features rectangular leg and roof box sections. This design is a popular choice for bulk storage buildings.
Cladding – The exterior covering of a building, typically referring to the PVC coated polyester membrane used on most Rubb buildings. Structures can also be clad with insulated or non-insulated metal panels on sidewalls and gables.
Clear Span – The horizontal measurement between the points where a span connects to the foundation.
Crane Liftable – Ability to attach an external set of cables to a structure so it can be lifted with a crane and repositioned around a jobsite.
Customer Service/Response – Rubb, Inc has built its reputation on fair and prompt handling of customer service requests. This is one reason why 80% of Rubb’s business comes from repeat customers.
Deployable – The ability for a building to be shipped as a compact unit and quickly assembled anywhere in the world.
Differential Settlement – When ground settles unevenly. This can have a negative effect on structures with rigid cladding, and requires a stronger foundation design to resist the settlement.
EFASS – The Rubb EFASS range of multi-use hangars and shelters can be used to meet a variety of needs across the defense sector.
Environmental Enclosure – The ability to completely isolate the volume inside the building from the outside environment. This allows for precise control of the characteristics of the air, such as humidity and particulates.
Fast Jet Door – A fabric door designed by Rubb to facilitate easy movement of aircraft and other vehicles from a Rubb deployable structure.
Fire Safety – The flame-retardant membrane covering a Rubb structure will dissipate away in a fire, allowing the building to self-vent and giving easy access for fire-fighting crews.
Flexibility – A Rubb building can be expanded, relocated, divided and reconfigured.
Frame Supported – When the cladding membrane is tensioned over the structural frame. This means that if the integrity of the cladding is compromised the strength of the building is not affected.
Hot Dip Galvanizing – In this process, the complete framework is built of welded black steel and then hot-dip galvanized to provide a consistent zinc coating over the entire structure.
I-Beam Foundation – A versatile accessory for Rubb buildings that maintains structural continuity around the base of the structure, enabling the use of simple foundation anchoring methods such as ground anchors or ballast weights. It also facilitates making a Rubb structure crane liftable.
Lattice Type Truss; Roof & Legs – An efficient structural design that utilizes high strength tubular steel to form a lightweight planar truss. Multiple truss segments are connected to form a span.
Life Safety – All structures are designed to national life safety and building codes. This includes requirements for wind and snow loads, safety factors based upon occupancy, and egress requirements in case of emergency.
Multi-Span – Several single spans are linked together to form a wide covered space with a minimum number of interior columns.
NV – The NV was the first trussed span building manufactured by Rubb. The design originated in Norway and has a vertical sidewall, giving it the acronym NV.
Port Terminal Warehouse – A cost-effective design that permits the efficient movement of goods between ship, rail and freight services.
Post Fabrication Hot Dip Galvanized to the ASTM A-123 standard – Steel components are dipped in corrosion-resistant molten zinc after they have been manufactured, ensuring that all holes, welds and unseen surfaces are protected.
PVC Coated Polyester – A sheet of waterproof membrane formed by coating a base material of high-strength woven polyester fibers with ultraviolet-resistant polyvinylchloride (PVC) on both sides.
PVC Folding Door – A simple hand-operated large equipment door in the end of a Rubb shelter.
Rapid Deployment Shelter (RDS) – A strong lightweight shelter consisting of a steel or aluminum frame with PVC cladding. These can be interlinked for housing, storage, and operations.
Rapid Erect Hangar (REH) – A steel truss hangar designed for higher snow loads than most aluminum frame structures. A high percentage of interchangeable parts ensures easy erection without the use of heavy equipment.
Rapid Erect Shelter (RES) – A high grade aluminum frame and fabric membrane hangar designed to accommodate individual fixed or rotary wing aircraft. Can be built on difficult terrain to achieve a maximum state of readiness. Supplied in kit form to be erected without special skills or tools and ships in one 20′ ISO container.
Relocatable – The ability to disassemble a structure and ship it to a different location with minimal loss of materials.
Single Span – A series of interconnected truss segments or tubes that attach to the foundation at two points with clear space in between (see also Clear Span)
Space Truss – A three-dimensional structural component that is used to carry the loads from one or more spans across a wide opening
Tensioned Membrane – A continuous sheet of material stretched uniformly over a structural frame, and anchored to the foundation around the perimeter
THA – The Rubb THA shelter range is robustly designed for the most extreme of site locations.
Thermohall® – Rubb’s patented Thermohall® is the best and most eco-friendly insulated storage building on the market today, perfect for any climate controlled storage facility.
Translucent Membrane – A material that allows a portion of natural daylight to pass through it, resulting in reduced need for interior lighting during the daytime.
Top Coating – An additional material applied to the inside or outside of a membrane that enhances it appearance or chemical resistance.
Vertical Sidewalls & Gables – Provides maximum amount of useable interior space compared to inefficient sloped or curved surfaces. Also allows use of conventional doors, windows and other accessories.
World Class Engineering – The highest standard of engineering as applied to frame supported tensioned membrane structures with respect to worldwide standards.
